Overview
Hardware sales increased this week by five percent, after six weeks of decreasing. But only due to the increased sales of the 3DS. 512,466 consoles were sold this week. Week-on-week sales are up for the 3DS. Year-on-year sales are down 38 percent. The Vita is the only platform up year-on-year.
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week. Dragon Quest VII (3DS) debuted at the top of the charts this week with sales of 836,027 units. Other debuts include Dead Space 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3).
There are no software milestones this week in the top 30.
Worldwide Hardware

Hardware home console sales week-on-week are down across the board. PlayStation 3 sales are down 10,601 (-8%) to 120,999 units sold. Xbox 360 sales are down 4,263 (-5%) to 87,104 units sold. The Wii U sold 31,716 units, a decrease of 2,589 (-8%). The Wii sold 21,149 units, a decrease of 4,268 (-17%).
Handheld sales week-on-week are up for the 3DS, and down for the DS, PSP, and Vita. The 3DS sold 189,167 units, which is up 53,197 (39%) week-on-week. The PlayStation Vita is down 1,377 (-25) to 24,360 units sold. The PSP sold 21,407 units which is down 3,422 (-14%) compared to last week. The DS is down 1,989 (-11%) to 16,564 units sold. Total week on week sales are up 24,688 units (5%) to 512,466 units.
The PlayStation Vita is the only platform up year-on-Year. The PlayStation 3 is down 86,870 (-42%), the Wii is down 93,293 (-82%), and the Xbox 360 is down 69,296 (-44%). The PSP is down 64,719 (-70%), the DS is down 39,490 (-70%), the Vita is up 7,656 (46%) and the 3DS is down 4,917 (-3%). Year on year sales are down 319,213 units (-38%).

Home console hardware sales have dropped significantly since the week ending December 22; however sales have almost evened out. The PlayStation 3 has led for seven straight weeks and seven of the last 10 weeks. The Xbox 360 led for two of the other weeks and the Wii U one of the weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 53 percent market share for the seventh generation; the Xbox 360 has a 38 percent market share; and the Wii has a nine percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four home consoles are down.

Handheld hardware sales have dropped for seven straight weeks for the DS, five weeks for the PSP, and one week for the Vita. 3DS sales have increased for one week. The 3DS remains well above all the other handhelds, outselling them combined.
The PSP has a 56 percent market share this week for the seventh generation handhelds and the DS with 44 percent. The 3DS has an 89 percent market share for the eighth generation of handhelds, while the Vita has an 11 percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
Worldwide Software
Three games debuted in the top 30 this week. Dragon Quest VII (3DS) debuted at the top of the charts this week with sales of 836,027 units. The game launched in Japan.
Dead Space 3 (X360) debuted at number two with sales of 385,439. The PlayStation 3 version debuted at number three with sales of 247,134. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (PS3) debuted at number five with sales of 103,235. The game launched in North America and Europe.
Here are the other games in the top 10 that are not debuts: Fire Emblem: Kakusei/ Awakening (3DS) is at number four with sales of 200,928 units.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) is at number six with sales of 84,872. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (X360) is at number seven with sales of 81,672 units. Call of Duty: Black Ops II (PS3) is at number eight with sales of 81,275 units. Ninokuni: Shiroki Seihai no Joou (PS3) is at number nine with sales of 58,433. Far Cry 3 (X360) rounds out the top 10 with sales of 50,189.

Software home console sales week on week are up for the Xbox 360, flat for the PlayStation 3, and down for the Wii and Wii U. The PlayStation 3 sold the most games this week with sales of 1.61 million, a decrease of 5,997 units (0%). The Xbox 360 sold 1.57 million games this week, an increase of 120,748 units (8%). Wii software sales are down 39,220 units (-6%) to 648,159 games sold. The Wii U sold 81,643 games, a decrease of 19,557 (19%).
Handheld software sales are up for the 3DS, and down for the DS, PSP and Vita. The 3DS sold 1.46 million games, which is up 996,928 units (-214%). The DS sold 330,247 games, a decrease of 38,806 units (-11%) week on week. PSP game sales are down 27,803 units (-17%) to 139,647 games sold. The Vita sold 121,168 games, a decrease of 3857 (-3%). Total combined software is up 982,436 units (20%) week-on-week to 5.96 million.
Year on year software totals is up for the 3DS and PlayStation Vita, and down for everything else. The PlayStation 3 is down 312,496 units (-16%), the Wii is down 571,097 units (-47%) and the Xbox 360 is down 331,177 units (-17%). The DS is down 185,941 units (-36%), the PSP is down 152,700 units (-52%), the 3DS is up 968,275 units (196%), and the Vita is up 54,584 units (82%). Total combined software is down 448,909 units (-7%) games sold year on year.

Software sales have increased for two weeks for the Xbox 360, have decreased for the other platforms for one week. The PlayStation 3 has led for four straight weeks and the Xbox 360 led for the 10 prior weeks.
The PlayStation 3 has a 42 percent market share, the Xbox 360 with 41 percent, and the Wii with 7 percent. Compared to ten weeks ago all four home consoles are down.

The 3DS sold the most software for a handheld for the eighth straight week and for the seventh time in 10 weeks. The DS led for the other two weeks. The 3DS and DS have remained above their rivals, the Vita and PSP respectively.
The DS has a 70 percent market share for the current generation handhelds and the PSP has a 30 percent market share. The 3DS has a 92 percent market share for the next generation handhelds, while the Vita has an eight percent market share. Compared with ten weeks ago all four handhelds are down.
